Egg Mania Eggstreme Madness for Sony PlayStation 2 (PS2)
Egg Mania is a two-player puzzle game where the object is to erect a tower using Tetris-shaped pieces to save an egg from drowning. The screen is vertically split into two areas, one for the player and the other for the computer or a friend. Water gradually rises from the bottom of the screen, so players must quickly catch falling pieces (using one of eight egg characters) and position them to build a sound foundation. A horizontal wobble meter depicts the tower's strength in eight increments from green to red. If players build their structure with too many gaps, the meter will rise and the building may come crashing down into the water. Once players reach the top of the vertically scrolling screen, the egg will jump into a hot air balloon and fly safely away. Play then resumes on a more challenging level where creatures will appear to assist or hinder the building process. Some creatures (up to 30 are included) may take away building blocks, while others may offer invincible blocks. Seven different game modes are available, including an eight-person "Tournament" and a single-player "Tutorial." Players can also unlock secret characters and modes by achieving top scores during competition. Additional modes include "Bomb", where the object is to demolish the opponent's tower using bombs and hammers falling from the sky. After first catching the items, players toss each bomb or hammer toward their rival's tower in the hopes of knocking it down before the favor is returned. As the name suggests, "Solo" is a one-player game with the goal of achieving a high score or a fastest time. "Survival" is test of endurance as the action becomes progressively harder until the player can no longer continue. "Custom" lets one or two players design their game from scratch, adjusting the number of rounds, water speed, fuse time for bombs, difficulty level, and more.
