MTV Sports: Pure Ride for Sony PlayStation 1 (PS1)
MTV Sports: Pure Ride is a multi-event snowboarding game that brings trick and stunt action, as well as high-speed downhill jaunts, to the PlayStation. The game contains a number of different snowboarding characters from around the world -- most of them are fictitious, and some are quite wacky in their design. -- and a variety of boards for snow shredding. Each rider and board has his or her (or its) own strengths and weaknesses. For those who aren't down with a bunch of silly rules, Free Ride mode allows players to hit the slopes free of score or trick requirements to simply enjoy the thrill of snowboarding. In Tour Challenge, an around-the-world jaunt, there are a number of different requirements for passing levels. There are five different tours to choose from and 12 different events to take on. Beating different levels will release them for use in Free Ride. If you're the type that eschews variety for specialization, then the Specialist mode is for you. In this mode, players can take on specific types of challenges, ranging from Big Air to Slopestyle to Half-pipe, shredding through 12 courses to unlock more levels. Stunt Mode rounds out the different ways to play Pure Ride, and in it players must complete 18 stages, hitting a variety of tricks to progress. There is also a two-player feature that allows multiple snowboarders to take each other on in a myriad of events. And if you enjoy making your own levels, prepare to rejoice, for Pure Ride allows you to construct your own slopes, making them as tame or insane as you like.
